Hello dinosaurs

I do remember seeing some snippets of Goodbye Volcano High in the early PS5 gameplay videos. It seemed a game I would like to try whenever it comes out. Well, Goodbye Volcano High was released 29 August 2023 and I managed to receive a review copy of the game. What is this game all about? Well, let’s dive into it.

STORY, GAMEPLAY, CONTROLS AND VISUALS

Goodbye Volcano High is a music/rhythm and adventure game. It tells a story of a place called Pangea where all the characters go high school called Volcano High. All the characters in the game are dinosaurs and you play as Fang. Everyone’s life are getting shorter because of the asteroid that is (ironically) coming towards their planet. So the teens try to make things right in their final days. They have drama, fights, love, relationships and so on. I did like the story and how it progressed and all the choices I could make—which comes to the gameplay. Yes the gameplay was making choices and also some rhythm/music gameplay, which I personally found to be kind of difficult to execute perfectly.

Visually the game looked nice and everything was hand-drawn. It was almost like watching a cartoon/animation movie. There were some hiccups with the performance, but it wasn’t anything game-breaking.

What I also liked was the music in the game, there were even times I could make my own lyrics, which was a nice to have.

Does the asteroid hit?

I liked how all the characters were written. They all had their own personalities and quirks. Goodbye Volcano High is about 5-6 hours long and it was a perfect length for a game like this. It also had a replay value, since you can play it again and do choices you didn’t do in the first playthrough.
