From Animation Movie to Video Game
Sometimes I just want to play something I’ve barely heard before. Tad the Lost Explorer was a game that got my eye in that matter. I did saw the an animation movie of this series a long time ago and I did enjoy it. Let’s hope Tad the Lost Explorer is as good as the movies.

The Adventure Begins
The story tells of a mysterious curse that takes Tad through the cities of Veracruz, Chicago, Paris and Cairo on an epic journey to find the emerald tablet and save his friends. So, the story is rather simple at the beginning but as I did play it got more adventurous after each level. The story was—as the game was—very much made for children but even as an adult I could enjoy it.
The gameplay was also simple. I could play the levels with different characters and each of them had their own abilities. One could fly, one could do double jump and so on. I did like the variation with the levels and the characters. Tad the Lost Explorer is a platformer first and an adventure game second. I think the levels were designed well, even though the core mechanics of the game was made badly. The game had a noticeable lag with controls and it is a death sentence in a plaftormer. The low frames didn’t help at all the situation. So Tad the Lost Explorer was laggy and unresponsive—even so I did manage to play the game from start to finish.

The game wasn’t that difficult, even the puzzles were rather easy to solve. In the end there is a long boss battle which did take a lots of tries to beat. What I liked in Tad the Lost Explorer was the fact how I could continue limitless of times after failing. There was always a checkpoint nearby where I could continue my game, even the boss battles had it.
Visually Tad the Lost Explorer looked OK. For Nintendo Switch standards it did look good, but was the graphics the reason why the game was so unresponsive? The level design was nice and the levels had a good variations to each other.
I did like how the characters were designed, just like in the animation movies. What I did feel was missing was the voice acting in-game. There was voice acting, but it was only in the storytelling parts which was like a comic book with a voice actor explaining the happenings.

The Final Journey
Tad the Lost Explorer was enoyable experience, even though it didn’t reach the hights of the animation movies. The laggy controls and low fps didn’t help at all the situation, but at least the game was playable. The game was about 3 hours long and it had lots of different ways to play the levels, so it didn’t get overly boring.
Tad the Lost Explorer is available on Nintendo Switch (reviewed), PS5, PS4, Mac and Windows.
