Spider Men’s adventure continues
The last time we got a Spider-Man game it was Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It was a breath of fresh air for the series since we got our very own game for the new protagonist. Miles Morales was a good game and it left me wanting more. Well, three years later, we got Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PS5. The series continues the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. But can it be as good as the previous two games?

Story, Gameplay, Controls And Visuals
New York City is under attack—again. It is almost like The PowerPuff Girls where the monsters always attacked the city and destory everything, but then they always manage to build it back. This time there is tons of villains, but I’m not going to spoil anything so I only name a few of them: Venom, Lizard and Sandman. I’m not a HUGE Spider-Man fan so some of the villains were new to me, which was a good thing so it took me by a positive surprise.
The story itself wasn’t anything overly complicated, but it had some twists and turns that kept me on my toes. There were a lots of story of Peter’s, Miles’s and Mary-Jane’s personal lifes and their struggles to cope with being a superheroes, saving everyone and being young college students at the same time. So the story wasn’t action-packed all the time, there was some down-times as well. Overall the story was a well-written ensemble and the ending of the game left me gaggin’ for more.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s gameplay was almost the same as the previous two games. There were some new additions to the gameplay and to the travelling around the city. For example, there was some new abilities and the flying/gliding move made it faster and easier to travel the city. Almost every other way the Peter’s and Miles’s gameplay sections were same as previously. What was new was Mary-Jane’s sections where she had to sneak around and avoid enemies, because she also got a stun gun which she could eliminate enemies. It was MUCH better than just sneaking around—which I hated in the previous games. Well, did I like the Mary-Jane sections in the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? No, I didn’t. They were still my least favourite parts.
The difficulty in this game was… hmm… I don’t know how to explain it since I did find the game to be kinda hard. Or maybe I’m not that good player. Thankfully there is an option in the difficulty settings where you cannot die so I did use this option at times, when I found crowd of enemies or bosses to be too much for me. Gameplay-wise Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is very fast-paced and requires quick thinking and reflexes. Also enemies and bosses cannot be dealed with by just smashing one attack button, there is different types of enemies and they take some tactics to be dealt with. When you have finished the game, you can still play it and do all the countless side missions.
Visually the game looks the best current-gen can offer. Very polished and beautiful, even the characters looked lifelike. Technically the game is also very polished, running smooth 4K/60fps, but there were a few times when I got stuck on environment or the boss glitched out so I had to restart the game.
Final Verdict
Even though Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had some new features it kinda felt too much like the previous games and I would’ve wanted something totally new. I can forgive it, since everything else was on point, but hopefully the next Spider-Man has that “something new” in it. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a very positive experience. It had a good story, three different characters to play with, new mechanics and gorgeous graphics. It was very much like the other two previous games; extremely over the top action. So, if you haven’t played Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (and you own PS5 since it is the only platform currently you can play it) I think it’s time you jump in and save the New York City!
