What Is This Game Anyway?

Even though a first glance at Thank Goodness You’re Here! suggests that the game is for kids, well, it’s not. The game is slated M – Mature (ESRB) and PEGI 16 ratings. I was little bit surprised about that, because I wasn’t expecting that. It is is a game from developer Coal Supper Games, an UK based indie studio and this being their second title. A short description from the developer’s site: “Thank Goodness You’re Here! is an absurd comedy slapformer set in the bizarre Northern English town of Barnsworth. As a traveling salesman, take the time to see the sights and meet the locals, who are very eager to give you a series of increasingly odd jobs…”

I’m more than eager to get my hands on this game!

Story

The plot of the game is as in the description: you are a travelling salesman who goes to an English town Barnsworth. You’ll take side jobs and help towns people in their needs, but the jobs get weirder and weirder each time.

Well, the story was nice and wholesome—and somewhat disturbed. There was a tons of crude humour and sexual innuendos, if your mind is that dirty to see them, of course. All the characters were caricatures and over-the-top, just the way I like it.

Gameplay, Controls and Visuals

Gameplay and controls were really simple in Thank Goodness You’re Here! and it was all it needed. The gameplay consisted of helping townspeople in their odd needs and it was almost linear experience. There were some times when I didn’t know where to go, but usually it was just a little thing I missed, such as a hatch on the wall. I don’t think the game has any difficulty in the gameplay or control aspect, it is a game that anyone can enjoy. So, what comes to the controls; you can jump, slap people and object around you to get them to react to you, and move around.

Visually the game looks rather simple and cartoonish. A game that looks like it is made for kids, but it’s definitely not. But it just adds the charm of its rather crude humour and eccentric characters.

Thank Goodness It’s Over

Thank Goodness You’re Here! is rather short-lived experience. The game was about 2 hours long and I don’t think it even needed to be any longer. It’s a nice bite-sized little adventure and it made me laugh with all its British humour and weird characters.

Yeah, if you have the means to play this game and two hours to spare, I do recommend this.

Thank Goodness You’re Here! is available on PS5 (reviewed), PS4, Nintendo Switch, Windows and Mac.
