Second DLC

Alan Wake 2 got its first DLC back in June 2024. It was a OK experience, but all three DLCs were rather short. Today, October 22, 2024 the game got yet another DLC The Lake House. This time it is a one story and not three.

Federal Bureau of Control

The plot in The Lake House DLC is about Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) agent Kiran Estevez. She goes to investigate a FBC-run facility. Soon she founds out that the facility is run by enemies and all the staff is dead.

The plot was OK. It is tied to the Control and Alan Wake -games. As I don’t want to spoil anything I’m not going to dive in into the story. But, shortly it tells more of the world of the forementioned games. In the game there are lots of files to be read that opens up the details even more.

Gameplay, controls, audio and visuals

The gameplay is same as in the base game and in the previous DLC. Nothing has been changed, but for those who doesn’t know the game is third person horror action game. Player must deal with enemies by shooting them, but in Alan Wake -games they must be first dealt with flashlight and then as their defense is off they can be shot. There are some puzzle elements as well, but they were left kinda little in the game, except those computers that needed some passcodes which took me some time to crack. There is also a new type of gun that is used for a new kinds of enemies.

Controls are easy to understand and the game plays very much like you could expect from a game released today (for example Resident Evil 4 remake and Silent Hill 2 remake).

All the audio and music in The Lake House were very scary and intimidating. Reminding me of some top-notch horror movie.

Like the base game The Lake House looked good too. Graphically there was two options; one preferring quality and other performance. I played this through using performance mode. I think the game looks best on the quality mode for sure, but I opted for the 60fps rather than better graphics.

The End? Already?

I played this through in about 1h 20 min. I hoped it would’ve been longer than that, at least twice as long to really get more of the story and the odd world of Alan Wake 2. But for the fans this is surely nice little add-on.

Alan Wake 2: The Lake House DLC is available on PS5 (reviewed), Xbox Series X|S and Windows.
