Oh, zombies, zombies, zombies
Arizona Sunshine Remake is a remake of the first game Arizona Sunshine (2016) vr game. It was released on headsets like PSVR and Oculus Rift. I did own the original PSVR system but I never played the game on it. Now there is a remake of it and I wanted to try it out.
Plot
An unnamed main character wakes up in the Grand Canyon, Arizona, when he hears a message on radio that there are some possible survivors nearby. So he goes to find them in this post-apocalyptic world where people have tunrned into zombies. The game doesn’t tell much about why the world is full of zombies. It rather quickly goes to the action. Arizona Sunshine Remake is kinda short game and the story feels that it could be longer. I wanted it to be much longer, but thankfully there are two story DLCs included in this remake, and they opens up the story little bit more.
Gameplay, controls, audio and visuals
(There are multiple choices for difficulty and I, naturally, played this through on the easiest setting as I’m not that familiar with VR shooting games). Gameplay in the Arizona Sunshine Remake was very easy to understand. Player moves the character around in first-person style and shoots the enemies. You can keep multiple guns on you and a few melee weapons or thorwables such like grenades. I did understand the the gameplay and how it wanted to me to play the game pretty quickly and it had a short tutorial in the beginning. Player must also do some little puzzle-like things such as collect keys or other objects to be able to proceed to the next area.
There are lots of settings which I liked as I tend to play my VR games in certain way. Usually the basic settings aren’t good enough for me such as 45° turning or teleporting as you move. I like to move 100% freely but I understand that not everyone can do that as they’ll get motion sickness easily. So go through the settings if you want the best experience out of this game. The game supports sitting, standing or roomscale play styles on PSVR2 and I played this through on sitting mode.
Arizona Sunshine Remake includes online co-op and all the DLCs. I didn’t play the online game, but I did play through the story DLCs: Dead Man DLC and The Damned DLC. The game includes also Old Mine update, Trailer Park Update and Undead Valley Update.
Controls in the Arizona Sunshine Remake worked mostly fine, but they might feel little janky at times and loading the guns was a struggle bus for me. I did opted for easy loading in the settings as I find it too difficult to play otherwise. I’m not a gun expert or used guns in real life, but for those who are, the guns can be loaded realistically. But with that said, the easy loading didn’t worked as well as I hoped for. The game tipped me to move my gun to the pouch, but maybe half of the time it did load my gun. Even the settings couldn’t fix this issue. Worst of them all was trying to load a shotgun. I also thought that maybe I was missing something, but the game didn’t tell me or taught me any better.
The game is fully voice acted. The main character is acted by Sky Soleil who is also voice actor in the sequel Arizona Sunshine 2.
Arizona Sunshine Remake has beautiful graphics. It looks good and sharp enough and all the zombies were terrifying and gross, especially when you shoot them to mush. The game has very detailed zombie dismemberment animations as well. I didn’t have any graphical issues with the gameplay nor I didn’t got stuck on the environment which sometimes happens in VR games.
The last of us walking dead arizona sunshine
Arizona Sunshine Remake was nice little bite-sized zombie shooter game. I played this through in about 3 hours. I did play only through all the story modes but the game offers online mode as well and other DLCs. Only negative was the gun loading that I didn’t get to work as well as I wanted to. Every other way I do recommend this zombie shooter to everyone who likes these kinds of games.
Arizona Sunshine Remake is available on PSVR2 (reviewed), Meta Quest and Steam VR.
