Click! And it comes in focus
For the life of me I cannot remember how I came across with TOEM video game. A couple of years ago I just played it on PS5 and I liked it a lot. So much so that I recently played it through again but this time on Nintendo Switch 2. TOEM wasn’t anything groundbreaking as a video game, but the simple gameplay, lovely characters, little world and the camera-gameplay was very cosy and fun. I, mostly, play action-heavy and weighted towards horror games. So, sometimes a palate cleanser is needed and TOEM was that for me. As of September 29, 2026 TOEM 2 was released and, without a doubt, I played it through.
Plot
TOEM 2 takes place two years after the first game and doesn’t have a plot per se, but rather straightforward beginning where the main character goes on a photography adventure to help people and do other tasks, to finally experiencing a magical phenomenon called TOEM.
Gameplay, controls, audio and visuals
TOEM 2 is a puzzle adventure played from top-down perspective with, new addition, a light platform elements. This time the protagonist can jump and move vertically. What players have to do in TOEM 2 is to travel from town to another, help people and do other tasks by using the camera. Solve light puzzles, photograph various animals and find secrets. The camera can be eguipped with add-ons that are given to players as they progress. Mind you that TOEM 2 puzzles and gameplay is very cosy and easy to follow. Players cannot die or anything like that.
Controls are as simple as they become. Running, jumping, using the camera in first-person mode and its add-ons are the only moves the game has. They all worked perfectly fine. The view of the levels can be rotated freely and also zooming in and out was possible.
TOEM 2 has a relaxing music and very mellow audio overall.
Visually the TOEM 2 looked good. Very much like the first game, but this time the graphics were much more sharper and realistic, versus the more drawn-like graphics of TOEM. It still deosn’t have any colour other than greyscale, but that’s the charm of this game series, methinks.
Click! And the world takes notice
TOEM 2 was, again, very nice little cosy game that I played through in little over 4h and did 92% of the game. I really wanted it to be longer as it is surprisingly good game. All the quirky characters I encountered, puzzles I did, secrets I found… I just didn’t want it to end. Well, hopefully there is gonna be TOEM 3 someday. I do recommend this indie game to everyone.
TOEM 2 is available on PS5 (reviewed on PS5 Pro), Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, Windows, Linux and Mac.
