Years in the making
It’s been 16 years since Psychonauts was launched on PS2. It got good reviews even though it didn’t sell very well. I personally never finished the whole game, but did play it. Psychonauts 2 was growfunded on Fig and the game was released August 25, 2021.
Welcome to therapy
Psychonauts 2 tells a story of 10-year-old Raz who has psychic powers. In the first game he runs away from his circus family to join psychic school. Psychonauts 2 continues the story few days after the first game. Raz is now working in the Psychonauts office, but their leader hasn’t been the same since he was rescued from a kidnapping, and what’s worse, there’s a mole hiding in headquarters. So, Raz’s mission is to uncover the mole and help their leader. I played this fully on PS5 console.
Gameplay, Difficulty, Controls
Psychonauts 2 is filled with quirky missions and mysterious conspiracies. The gameplay is to jump inside people’s minds and see inside their head, which is usually filled with the most insane game worlds. Raz also has eight powers he can use and also some basic moves like jumping and dodging.
The game doesn’t offer any difficulty levels so the game is as is, but I didn’t find it overly diffcult. Yes, it might get little bit difficult some places where countless enemies spawn or in boss battles. The game is insane and nuts, but it is well-designed.
Controls feels nice in Psychonauts 2, even though sometimes they felt clunky and the game had little desing-flaws.
Graphically the game looked nice, sometimes there was lots of pop-ups and loading issues. The art-style is very unique and follows the footsteps of the first game.
The final diagnosis
Psychonauts 2 is crazy and fun game. It tackles mental illnesses and human psyche humoristic way. Sometimes I just shooke my head of and laughed the way the game portaits of some things. The game cost 59€ and it is fully deserved that price tag. I fully recommend this game for anyone who likes platform games and have little bit twisted sense of humour. The game is full of imaginative game worlds, funny characters, great soundtrack, fully voice acted and at least 15-20 hours of gameplay.
