Finally, a Moomin game!
As a Finnish person; I love Moomin! Especially the old cartoon. There’s not many Moomin games out there, though, and when I heard that Snufkin got his very own game I was super exited. Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley was released on 3 March, 2024. I’m little late to the party but it’s better late than never.
Story, Gameplay, Controls and Visuals
Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley tells a story of Snufkin, who comes back to the Moominvalley after spending time travelling. It is spring and all Moomins are waking up from their winter slumber. Moomintroll and Snufkin always used to meet at the bridge and this time Moomintroll isn’t there—and the river is gone as well! It becomes quickly clear that a mischievous Park Keeper is behind all of this. He’s building parks everywhere and put outrageous rules every place. Snufkin has to restore the Moominvalley to its former glory—and find where Moomintroll has gone.
The gameplay and controls are very straightforward and easy. You must help the quirky and memorable characters with their needs. You also have musical instruments that are used to interact with the characters and animals living in the Moominvalley. You can also level up that will open new paths in the game. Then there’s the Park Keeper’s parks itself that you must to navigate through. The guards make your travels more challenging there and there is a lot of stealth in those parts, but do not fret; the stealth isn’t overly difficult. (I did play this using PS4 controller).
Visually Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley looks like a storybook. Everything’s very endearing yet there is some seriousness in the game. I liked how all the characters looked and it brought back childhood memories as I used to watch the Moomin cartoon.
Final Verdict
I did enjoy my 3,5h with the Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley. I didn’t 100% the game I did just the story part and a few extra things. The game’s not overly simple and made just for little kids; it’s obviously for adults as well. If you enjoy Moomin stories—or merely just interested—I do recommend this little game to everyone.
