Back to the Gotham City
I’m not the only one who has been waiting for a new Batman game. I love the Arkham games and my favourite of the three is Arkham Asylum. However, we just got a something Batman Arkham related; LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. It promises a good slice of the Batman’s world of fighting against crime. But is this LEGO version any good?
I played LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight through on PS5 Pro.
Plot
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight retells the story of Bruce Wayne (Batman) from his origin as a trainee with the League of Shadows, to becoming a hero of Gotham City. The game features a large ensemble of characters from the history of Batman. Most of the characters’ story were their origin story and how they became the villains of the Gotham City. So the plot was mostly about how Batman encounters the villains one by one and how he beat them. I personally love all the crazy villains of the Batman series and it was nice to see their story told again. The whole plot isn’t fully-fledged, meaning, everything was very bareboned and it felt more like a lite verison of the previous three Arkham series games.
Gameplay, controls, audio and visuals
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective, alternating between various action sequences and puzzle-solving scenarios. The puzzles weren’t overly complicated, so to put it out there that they were very easy to solve. The gameplay was mostly of going on missions one after another, going after a super villain as they tried to do something bad, such like blowing up the whole city, or such. The travelling is rather easy in the city as players have vehicles, but there is one little nagging about it. There’s not same kind of waypoint mechanism as it was in the Arkham Knight game. Meaning, I had to rely the actual traffic signs to find the bridges that took me to the other islands. There are four main islands. So it was sometimes annoying to try to travel around.
As the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an action game there are tons of fighting. Almost always there were a group of enemies that had to be dealt with fighting them. Players have with them another character which they can swap any time. There are two weapons/gadgets/skills on each character and players have to use them accordingly, let’s say for instanse, to solve a puzzle.
An upgrade system was included. Players can upgrade their stats and get new moves with golden bricks they’ll receive after every chapter. With all this, there are tons of collectibles in the game. I mean the missions were littered with hidden things and free roaming in the city has extreme amount of collectables. So, after the main game there’s lots to do.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is fully voice acted. I did like it and the quality reminded me of The LEGO Batman Movie (2017).
Visually the game looked good. It was super sharp, colourful, detailed and very life-like (even though this is a LEGO game). The Gotham City was dark, gloomy and rainy—just the way it has always been.

Verdict
LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight was an enjoyable, movie-like experience. I played it through in 11 hours. It tells the Batman’s—and its supervillains’—origins stories nicely in the lite versio of the Gotham City. I do recommend this game to everyone, and overall as a LEGO game, LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight is the best one yet.
